Mandriva released a new LiveCD with the new 3D-Desktop Metisse on it. Metisse is a GPL-Product. How to compile it you can find here:

Well, I have yet to see which is the usability improvement the end user gets out of it other than eye candy to be showcased on ones desktop. Maybe if I started using a computer after this 3d technology I would have seen it but then I need to get myself used to it.
