I used some distros like SUSE, Debian, Ubuntu etc. Some of them support Hiberation. Debian disables it and even hasn't the hibernate-button. When I push the hibernate-button in paldo it goes in some sleepmode as in Ubuntu but shows gnome after some secs. again. The Shut-down-this-system-now-dialog is freezed. You've to force to quit it. After that you can start the dialog again to shutdown normally.

Why this? Is there a log or something so I can help you with this?

Unfortunately I can't test hibernation as I haven't setup large enough swap partitions. Are you sure that you don't have that problem on your system? I'm not sure but you might also need to set the resume partition explicitly either with the resume boot parameter or by setting /sys/power/resume. The kernel log should contain further information.

I hope you can do something with it. The screen gets black for a short time and gnome gets reloaded after some seconds. No hibernation:

Have you added your swap device to /etc/fstab?

Upps, I forgot to add swap to fstab. After adding resume=/dev/sda6 to the menu.lst and the proper settings for swap to fstab all works fine now.
