Hello
After a long vacation from linux I am back to paldo @ HP Pavilion DV3000. My problem is that I cannot change the brightness level in any way. The laptop function key + F7/F8 doesn't work - it only displays a moving bar the the brightness itself doesn't change. Going through the Display configuration page didn't work either - again no effect setting a different % for brightness. Anyone has a solution for that? Thanks in advance.

Oh and an addition, there is something wrong with my character encoding, as no cyrilic characters show up - squares take their place. Also, after each suspend/shutdown my wired network adapter gets assigned to eth0/eth1 randomly and my mac address falls back to the original one, but I need to clone my stationary PC's mac to use the wired connection (no wireless available right now).
Suspending on lid closure doesn't work either. However, brightness issue solved by installing nvdock.
EDIT: lid problem solved by assigning a minute cron job to watch for the state of the lid (which is obviously properly updated despite the lack ofsusoend response). So, I guess only the ethernet issue remains.
