Hi

I'm pretty happy with Paldo, it is very stable and fast using xfce4. How can I get rid off the gnome-packages?

Thanks and best regards

what are the gnome packages your talking about, since xfce-desktop has no gnome dependencies (just a few line the nm-applet, but these are mainly crucial for xfce as well and shouldn't be removed)

If your using gdm for login then thats what should be keeping gnome packages on your system.

If you installed with the paldo livecd and then installed the xfce-desktop, then you should have to change the gdm to slim login manager and then you should remove the paldo meta-select-file to allow paldo to remove the gnome desktop.

so plz tell us first how you've got the xfce desktop and what gnome packages you're talking about.

I had installed Paldo stable gnome and later on I have installed the xfce desktop.

What's the name of the paldo meta-select-file, I have to remove? Where would I find it?

Thanks for your help!

if you installed it with the livecd then to remove gnome you should:

# rm -rf /var/lib/upkg/packages/"[search for file paldo-20090321.select or other version]"

Then check if you are using slim login manager instead of GDM since removing gnome will remove gdm as well

$ cat /etc/inittab

at the end if there is

x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm

Then you're using gdm change the /usr/bin/gdm to the location of slim binary

x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/slim

Now you can remove gnome but first I advise you reboot and get out of gnome,
On the next boot you'll be greeted with slim, put your username and your password and you should login into xfce, then you go to terminal and do a:

# upkg-upgrade

And upkg will try to remove gnome packages but it wont remove the ones that the xfce-desktop requires and gratefully it also requires the paldo-base that keeps upkg from trying to remove itself and some core programs

Then you should have pure paldo-xfce

# rm -rf /var/lib/upkg/packages/"[search for file paldo-20090321.select or other version]"

This file does not exist on my system

ls /var/lib/upkg/packages/paldo*.select
/var/lib/upkg/packages/paldo-desktop.select
