After a few seconds, the x server started up and I could log on again. After that I rebooted and my screen was filled with "weird" characters which I have never seen before!
That happened today as well and while shutting off the machine, the same thing happened again.
Weird words and symbols fill the screen for a few seconds.
I just finished re installing Paldo and even with a new install, the x server crashed while I was writing a support request to godaddy.com
I don't know what to do? Is anyone else experiencing this?
I better post this before I crash agian |

A minute ago, I crashed the laptop while creating a gedit document
This is getting scarry!
To recap what is happening:
On two different computers, running "testing" I'm experiencing x server crashes when editing documents or writing forum posts :( This is NOT good |

In testing there are some new drivers added, like nvidia-glx. Can you test also stable on this two machines to see if some packages affect this issue you have. I think it is in some way driver related.
Check the reverse dependencies of this release:
http://www.paldo.org/index.php?section=packages&page=main&releaseid=113664
some driver differs from stable rls related on x-server.
Also this will help alot:
Install hardinfo
and run
in a terminal. The output should be something like this:

by the looks of it, all is well again. Whew, that was quite the scare yesterday!
My laptop lost the ability to accept a tap on the touch pad but i think that I can edit the xorg configuration file (or something like that) so that it will be back to normal again.
OK, back to work :) |

I think synaptic has a different version in testing...
... also it is good to checkout the svn of the specs and check the log if something like this happens again. the range of the problem
is much smaller then. |

hello from Vancouver :-)
With the new install (last Satruday) the touch pad can only be used to move the cursor, but not to "tap" on it ... which needs to be done with the button instead.
I hope this will be fixed in the next little while because I am so used to the way it was before.
Thanks for keeping the updates coming ... it is exciting to have access to all the latest releases :-) |

because the work computers are an an internal network (for the render farm) I download a new(er) iso from time to time. First, I install it on my "hobby" machines and if all is well, I (might) upgrade the other computers too.
The latest ISO image is from "December 1" (that's what I have written on the disk with a marker) and right after installing this, the laptop lost the "tap" function.
I still can move the mouse cursor but instead of tapping on the mouse pad, the button needs to be pressed.
I will look into this some more on the weekend because we are super swamped with a fix-up project that needs to be done yesterday |
