Hi all

I love the wonderfull stable (even as I am using testing) Paldo-system. I am missing a few packages in the repositiory:

par2 (or similar) for verifying and repair of archives.
lxsplit for splitting and joining files.
gqview for a nice graphics viewer with a list of filenames to browse in (I know there are plenty other graphics viewers, but none with possibility to browse via filenames.

And as a musician lilypond, ardour, audacity, msscore and a few others. But I will eventually over time compile these (and the others) for myself.

BUT AGAIN THANK YOU FOR THIS NICE SYSTEM. I will use it for some time ) Maybe even longer )) Maybe for ever ))))))))))))))

Hello Lars,
it would be great if you would find a way to compile some of the music applications because ... i miss them too.
Ardour with jack would be a great start but i don't know if a low latency kernel is needed to take full advantage of this high end recording/editing software.

Good luck :=)

Ardour requires lowlatency to completely avoid xruns. But setting the kerneltimer to 1000 instead of 100 (when configuring the kernel) makes a huge difference. And the kernel development has as a main goal to lower the latency, with good progress since kernel-2.6.24 (as far I remember). It will hopefully continue so low latency will possible in not a divery distant future.

Setting the timer to 1000 makes the system very responsive (good for desktop). I do not no, what the kernel-timer is on paldo but the system seems quite reponsive (I am enjoying my almost new system).

Have nice day

paldo kernels are built with CONFIG_NO_HZ which avoids a fixed frequency and uses dynamic timer interrupts.

Wow

It sounds as it means that the kernel is almost perfect for a audio workstation. Execept the missing programs. I will evetually digg into that in the near future.

Have a nice day
