Unfortunatly my Ipw2200 wireless LAN adapter did not work out of the box with your live cd. I found following error messages in the kernel log:

Post Scriptum
ipw2200: ipw-2.2-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2
ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: 0xFFFFFFFE
ipw2200: failed to register network device
ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:02.0 failed with error -5

In a document I found on http://ipw2200.sf.net there seems to be a solution:

Post Scriptum
Issues
Firmware files fail to load even if installed

In some kernel configurations (users have most frequently reported the problem
only with 2.6.9), the default timeout value for the hotplug subsystem is too
low. You may have this problem if you see the following in your kernel log
(via dmesg or /var/log/messages):
ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.0.1
ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2004 Intel Corporation
ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
ipw2200: ipw-2.2-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2
ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: 0xFFFFFFFE
ipw2200: failed to register network device
ipw2200: probe of 0000:00:0b.0 failed with error -5

To work around this, you can increase the default timeout value:

echo 100 > /sys/class/firmware/timeout

and then reload the ipw2200 module. If this corrects your problem, you may
wish to add the above line to your system startup scripts prior to the point
at which the driver module would be loaded.
The other most common reason for getting the above error is that the firmware
files are not installed in the correct location. Please see the INSTALL
document for information on installing the firmware files.

Well, i could solve the problem with a simple "rmmod ipw2200" and a "modprobe ipw2200" but this is of course not the way to solve the real problem...

Another problem occured on my laptop is the x-server. Seems that my Radeon 9200 does not really support vesa mode, probably it's better to use Driver "fbdev" to get support for a bigger range of hardware... (?)

Hi there

sorry for ansering so late...

The X problem was also recognized by us. We're not sure what the real problem is there, however we solved the it in our testing branch by supplying an extra tool wich detects your video chipset.

Many users are experiencing problems with the ipw2x driver suite atm. Since we both have no such devices yet, we're unable to test possible solutions... we did't find the definitive solution yet eather.

Meanwhile there have been some driver updates and the firmware loading timeout has been extended in paldo kernels. A ipw2100 user has reported that it now works, so ipw2200 should now work out of the box, too.

Sorry, forgot to point out that the changes are only in testing and unstable. The next stable release - planned at the end of July - will contain the updates, of course.

Just tested the latest testing live cd. Network device does still not work out of the box: the module ipw2200 is not loaded. After a simple "modprobe ipw2200" everything works perfectly. No more problems with x.org, but would be cool if you can support WSXGA+ resolutions (1680x1050).

Yes, works perfectly with my Linux installation! I thought you should add it to the xorg.conf file... Or is it created automaticly (haven't looked at it)?

Automatic module loading should be fixed in all current live cds. Please report if there are still issues with intel wireless chips.

We'll add some wide resolutions to the default configuration on the next x server update/rebuild.

The wide resolutions WUXGA 1920x1200, WSXGA+ 1680x1050, WSXGA 1280x854, WXGA 1280x800 have been added to the default configuration of the xorg-server package in the unstable branch, i.e. they will be available in the next paldo release.
