Junior Mitglied Posts: 26 Registered: 2008-06-15 | Um, I am sorry, but what happened to the legacy nvidia drivers? They were what was enabling direct rendering for me, and now they are just gone  I tried installing the 96xx driver from nvidia's site, but their package just fails to build the nvidia module (something I encounter for the first time btw). It's not that I urgently need this feature, but it's a little annoying to know that it is no longer present, blocking the system's 3D video capabilities. |

Administrator Posts: 426 Registered: 2004-09-09 | NVIDIA doesn't provide good support for the legacy drivers. They regularly break with new kernel and X server versions. We don't have the time to fix issues in three different versions of a proprietary driver, just because NVIDIA is unable to release a unified driver. Therefore, we decided to drop support for the legacy drivers completely.
We intend to re-add 3D acceleration support using the open-source nouveau driver. If you need acceleration before that, you need to search for patches to fix the legacy nvidia drivers on your own. |
