Stocky, a friend of mine don't get sound out of his ASUS Lappi. It is the Model X50N. In Vista the sound works. Vista uses the realtek HDA driver.

Can you try whether alsa-driver 1.0.15 fixes the issue?

Maybe these drivers will help:

realtek-linux-audiopack-4.07a.tar.bz2
realtek-linux-audiopack-4.07a.tar.bz2 (mirror 2)
realtek-linux-audiopack-4.07a.tar.bz2 (mirror 3)

Simple have to extract it somewhere and start

I got a similar problem with the sound system of my laptop (Megaline Laptop made by Quanta, Intel Core 2 Duo).

lspci:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

The installation of the realtek driver above just solved the problem.
