The Java plug-in works fine in the paldo package, you don't need to install Java manually into /usr/local.

I'd recommend you to remove the Java installation from /usr/local again and install either the jre (Java Runtime Environment) or the jdk (Java Development Environment) package from the paldo repository.

Code[In neuem Fenster öffnen]
upkg-add jre

The jre package will install the plug-in into /usr/lib/firefox/plugins, not into ~/.mozilla/plugins. Are you on x86 or x86_64? Sun hasn't released a plug-in for x86_64 yet.

I don't think that the symbolic link is a problem. Can you check whether the Java Plug-in is enabled in "aboutlugins"?

Have you tested different applets and what do you see when you're on a page with a Java applet, any error message?
