Now, if mate was available as the replacement... |

When did you plan to change desktop environment ? Because I think for lot of peapole Gnome is not really fun and usual.
I don't like Gnome the last version. It not very good to use.
I prefer XFCE: XFCE is lighter than Gnome and complete.
But it have aloso another desktop that can be in paldo ....
Thanks |

Furthermore, Xfce 4.12 requires deprecated components, which we would rather not re-add to paldo. Unfortunately, Xfce 4.14 won't be ready for quite some time.
Individual window managers such as fluxbox can be (re-)added, though, if there is interest. Same holds for individual applications, to a certain extent. |

E.g., security issues might no longer get fixed. Changes in other parts of the system (e.g., new gcc or glibc releases) could break the build, which would require extra effort from each distro to fix.
That said, Xfce 4.12 is in much better shape than 4.10. The number of outdated dependencies is not that high anymore. Packaging Xfce for paldo might not be as big of an issue as I first thought. |

There is still an issue with the default configuration but the Adwaita icon theme works, if I remember correctly. I'm not aware of an official Xfce icon theme for 4.12 that would be missing in paldo, though. |
