I'm not sure if anybody uses the closed source nvidia-glx here. The upcoming nvidia v.270 supports xorg-server 1.10 but if all paldo-users use the opensource xf86-video-nouveau we could drop nvidia-glx. Mesa supports gallium-nouveau so you can use Blender or Warzone2100 (3D Applications) by default without any problems.
If anybody uses nvidia-glx here; please scream - else we can delete this package from the repo .............................. https://www.richardnespithal.com

Just getting my gnome box back up after the considerable upgrades of last week. Gnome3 and nouveau are working but ran into dependency and other glitches, e.g. glibc, X, even upkg seems to have died after the initial big update and its own upgrade.
This box was running "testing", until that category was dropped. "Stable" was specified for updating a few weeks back - don't know if that has confused the issue for the many upgrades last week, but haven't run into this many updating glitches before.
An XFCE box running unstable 64 fared better, but not without some glitches. All part of a rolling release, at times.
Is an upgrade to Opera in the cards? I still use it and install the latest version separately, as the package in the repository is dated. It can probably be dropped if it's not going to get updated - there may not be many using it.
cheers

yes; testing was dropped: http://forum.paldo.org/index.php?action=topic&topicnr=1138 and you're right; there were many many updates (as well as the new systemd sys manager) and I still have to fix some xfce-related problems within the next weeks..
An Opera upgrade to v.11.10 shouldn't be a problem; will do this tomorrow (and a chromium update, too). .............................. https://www.richardnespithal.com

In terms of future it may always happen to appear some applications who need the closed driver, but that's uncertain.
I know that Paldo does not have a battalion of maintainers and then, just for myself I would never dare to require it.
Thanks for advising, and as for me, please decide by your best convenience. |

@zerobug: I think the closed source drivers are useful if you work with really big screens and highpoly 3d scenes (oooh.. what a perfect rhyme)
..em.. sorry! I ment the cloused source driver will stay in the repo and I'll commit some updates regulary. .............................. https://www.richardnespithal.com

Thank a lot Ritchy, if you feel that's not gone be too heavy for you.
If nobody else will be using it, I would be happy if you update the package not at every kernel update, but once every two.
cheers

I'm using the closed source driver on one of my 3D workstations and on my old GeForce GT8600 machine, too (I don't know why but nouveau doesn't work with GT8600!?); one day I have to check this .............................. https://www.richardnespithal.com
