Hi there...

I installed the new paldo 1.9 today and I wanted to remove the "msttcorefonts" package, because I don't like these fonts on webpages. So I tried to remove them, but the package was not found:

Code[In neuem Fenster öffnen]
[root@Athlon-XP:~]# upkg-remove msttcorefonts
Generating script...
ERROR: Package 'msttcorefonts' not found in list of selected packages.
Could not generate script!
[root@Athlon-XP:~]#

The package itself is installed:

Code[In neuem Fenster öffnen]
[root@Athlon-XP:~]# upkg-list | grep msttcorefonts
- msttcorefonts-x86-glibc-2.5-gcc-4.1-1-20050521-1
[root@Athlon-XP:~]#

So, what's wrong..? Thanks for your help...

msttcorefonts is a dependency of the virtual package paldo-desktop. upkg won't let you remove dependencies of selected packages - as that could break the system in some cases. It's unfortunate that this restriction applies to dependencies of virtual packages, too, but it's not that easy to workaround currently.

Code[In neuem Fenster öffnen]
upkg-remove --force msttcorefonts

will remove the package but it won't help that much, the next upgrade will reinstall it as it will still be the dependency of the virtual paldo-desktop package.

paldo-desktop is a meta-package, isn't it? Is there a way to remove just paldo-desktop without its dependencies? That would be cool...

I've installed my system with "paldo-desktop" instead of the "paldo" package ("upkg-bootstrap --branch stable paldo-desktop"), so there should be no reverse dependcy...

It's possible but not with a simple command. You'd have to add all other dependencies of paldo-desktop explicitly to your package selection first and then remove paldo-desktop, i.e. add all dependencies from http://www.paldo.org/paldo/specs/paldo-desktop.xml by running

Code[In neuem Fenster öffnen]
upkg-add PACKAGE

It won't install anything as everything is already installed but you can remove the paldo-desktop meta package afterwards and it will just remove msttcorefonts.
